Madar (Nouakchott) - Mauritania's national gendarmerie said its company in Néma, capital of the Hodh Ech Chargui region, seized 4,500 litres of petrol intended for smuggling, according to a statement reported by the Sahara Medias agency on Friday, October 23, 2026.
The gendarmerie said the operation was part of efforts to combat fuel smuggling and illegal trade, without specifying the circumstances of the seizure or who was holding the fuel.
Last week, the gendarmerie announced the seizure of 7 tonnes of fuel inside a house in Sélibaby.
