Madar (Nouakchott) - Mauritania's first cerebral catheterisation was carried out on the morning of Tuesday, October 27, 2026, at the Military Cardiology Centre by a Mauritanian military medical team under the supervision of an Egyptian doctor, according to the national army's official website.

The procedure treated a cerebral arterial aneurysm using advanced catheter techniques that allow precise medical instruments to be guided through the blood vessels, including the placement of a special stent that diverts blood flow away from the aneurysm and limits flow into it.

According to the same source, cerebral catheterisation is also used to treat a number of cerebral vascular malformations, and the operation is part of cooperation, exchange of expertise and the transfer of medical knowledge to national staff.

The army described the step as part of its efforts to develop specialised health services and bring quality care closer to citizens. The source gave no information on the patient or their condition after the procedure.
