Madar (Nouakchott) - The first phase of Mauritania's emergency programme for access to essential services for local development will continue until next March, livestock development minister Ahmedou Ould Chine said as he closed phase-two regional consultations in Hodh El Gharbi in Aioun on Saturday night, October 31, 2026, the Mauritanian News Agency reported.
The minister said the region had seen 475 interventions in phase one, of which 259 were completed, 222 were at an advanced stage and 14 had not started, according to the figures reported by the agency, adding that the government was implementing the president's programme on schedule.
The consultations covered the region's five departments, Aioun, Tintane, Kobenni, Tamchekett and Touil, with local elected officials and civil society, and set phase-two priorities according to residents' needs, alongside an assessment of phase one and site visits, in the presence of the regional governor.
In Tagant, equipment and transport minister Ely Ould El Veirik closed two days of consultations in Tidjikja on Saturday evening that set priorities for each of the region's ten municipalities, then visited a middle-school construction site intended to ease pressure on the town's schools, urging faster work and respect for deadlines.
Madar earlier reported that Hodh El Gharbi had 475 phase-one interventions, as consultations take place across all regions to prepare the programme's second phase.
