Madar (Nouakchott) - Mauritania's first forum of communities abroad closed on Saturday evening, October 31, 2026, at the Mokhtar Ould Daddah conference centre in Nouakchott with a final declaration containing seven core recommendations, the Mauritanian News Agency reported.

They call for a national council of Mauritanian communities abroad, a fund to support their investments and make remittances safer and cheaper, and Islamic sukuk aimed at the diaspora and guaranteed by the state, coordinated with the central bank.

The recommendations also include a national programme to mobilise Mauritanian skills abroad, a national social assistance fund to help repatriate the remains of the deceased and handle special humanitarian cases, extending the consular network to countries with sizeable communities, and opening educational and cultural centres there.

The foreign minister, closing the forum on behalf of the president, renewed his ministry's commitment to follow up implementation of the seven recommendations with the relevant departments and to keep the diaspora regularly informed through embassies and consulates.

President Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani opened the forum on Thursday, outlining measures including dual nationality, elected diaspora MPs and a digital identity app.
