Madar (Niamey) - A delegation of experts from Algeria's National Agency for the Valorisation of Hydrocarbon Resources (ALNAFT) is in Niger from October 26 to 30, 2026, to modernise the country's petroleum data bank, according to a statement by Niger's Ministry of Petroleum reported on Wednesday, October 28, by news site TSA.

The mission aims to carry out "an in-depth diagnosis" of the system for managing and preserving oil and gas data, including infrastructure, equipment, software, human resources and data-security systems, the statement said.

At the end of their work, the Algerian experts are expected to make recommendations and propose "a technical and financial roadmap" to support the modernisation and strengthen the skills of Nigerien staff. The ministry described the initiative as part of "fraternal and strategic cooperation" between the two countries.

From October 12 to 19, Algerian experts from the hydrocarbons ministry, the hydrocarbons regulator and ALNAFT had provided technical support to local teams after an incident at a well in the Agadem oil block, the same source said.

Energy cooperation between the two countries also includes the trans-Saharan gas pipeline, an agreement between Sonatrach and Niger's Sonidep to jointly operate the Kafra oil field, and a 40-megawatt power plant donated by Algeria and inaugurated in Niamey in June by Prime Minister Sifi Ghrieb.
