Madar (Nouakchott) - The president of Mauritania's National Olympic and Sports Committee announced on Monday, October 26, 2026, that Mauritania will take part in the Dakar 2026 Youth Olympic Games, to be held in Senegal from October 31 to November 13, with three athletes: a male and a female runner in athletics and a female judoka, the Al-Wiam news agency reported.

Speaking at a press conference in Nouakchott, he said this marked progress on the Buenos Aires 2018 Youth Olympics, where Mauritania was represented by two athletes, adding that the committee had applied to compete in four sports before three athletes were accepted in two sports under international criteria and quotas.

He said the delegation's organisational and logistical preparations were complete and welcomed Senegal's hosting of the event, the first of its kind on the African continent, with more than 2,500 athletes from around the world. The names of the three athletes were not disclosed.
