Madar (Dakar) - International Olympic Committee President Kirsty Coventry is expected in Dakar on the evening of Monday, 26 October 2026 for the final preparations of the Dakar 2026 Youth Olympic Games, the Senegalese news agency APS reported on Sunday, citing an official source.

The visit marks an important moment about a week before the Games open. The first Olympic event held on the African continent runs from 31 October to 13 November in Dakar, Diamniadio and Saly, with about 2,700 athletes and full gender parity.

On the same day, President Bassirou Diomaye Faye will chair the official ceremony handing the national flag to Senegal's delegation at 16:30 in the banquet hall of the Palais de la Republique, the Ministry of Youth and Sports announced.

The ceremony had initially been planned for Saturday at the Guereo camp in the Thies region before being postponed. Senegal's team comprises 136 athletes in 23 disciplines, APS reported earlier.
