Madar (Niakhar) - Senegal's Minister of Family, Social Action and Solidarity, Marie-Angélique Mame Selbé Diouf, and the United Arab Emirates ambassador to Senegal, Saeed Hamdan Mohammed Al Naqbi, on Sunday, 18 October 2026 inaugurated a model estate of 50 social homes for fatherless orphans in the commune of Niakhar, in the central Fatick region, the Senegalese Press Agency (APS) reported.
Donated by the UAE through an international charity (ICO) and named after Sheikh Sultan Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the estate includes, besides the 50 homes, a health post, four shops, a mosque and a Koranic school, and is connected to the commune's electricity and drinking water networks.
The homes "are much more than walls and a roof; they are the promise of a stable home and restored security", the minister said, adding that the choice of Niakhar recognised "the quality and solidity of its local governance". She called for the estate to be well maintained and managed.
The Emirati ambassador described the inauguration as "a new fruit of the dynamic and privileged cooperation" between the two countries, saying the estate "is not a mere donation" but reflects the UAE's commitment to support Senegal's economic and social development priorities.
Niakhar mayor Macodou Sène said the same partners had carried out other projects in the commune and renewed the municipal council's readiness to strengthen the partnership.
