Madar (Dakar) - The finance and budget control committee of Senegal's National Assembly on Saturday, 7 November 2026, rejected all the budget bills submitted for its examination, the daily Le Soleil reported.
The rejection covers revenue and public-debt forecasts, as well as the budgets of several institutions, including the presidency, the prime minister's office and the top courts, the paper said.
According to figures cited by Le Soleil, the presidency's budget stands at 223.86 billion CFA francs, up 19.32 billion from 204.54 billion in 2026, while the National Assembly's falls from 22.30 billion to 21.11 billion. The Constitutional Council is allocated 1.50 billion, the Supreme Court 4.69 billion and the Court of Auditors 13.07 billion.
Committee members expressed reservations about the consistency of some figures and the sincerity of the government's forecasts, and pointed to missing supporting documents. Some called for the 2025 budget settlement law, which they said was needed to assess past budget execution. The government's answers did not dispel these reservations, according to the paper, which said Economy, Finance, Budget and Planning Minister Cheikh Diba attended the session.
The rejection follows the presentation of the 2027 budget bill to the finance committee with a projected deficit of 4.7%, the National Assembly's rejection on 3 November of the amended 2026 finance bill, and the finance committee's request for the 2027 budget bill to be withdrawn. The paper did not give the vote count or a date for the plenary session.
