Madar (Dakar) - The "Justice for Astou Pierre Collective" held a peaceful march on Friday, October 16, 2026, in the Grand Dakar district of the Senegalese capital to honour the memory of Aissatou Pierre, known as Astou Pierre, and demand full light on her death, according to the Senegalese site Seneweb.
The case dates back to June 23, 2026, when the victim was doused with a corrosive substance in an attack attributed to her former partner, according to the same source. She was admitted to Fann hospital in Dakar, where she underwent lengthy treatment including skin grafts.
Discharged on September 4 after a temporary improvement, Astou Pierre was readmitted on September 28 with breathing complications and died on October 1 of a pulmonary embolism. She was buried in Yoff cemetery.
The organisers handed a memorandum to the Grand Dakar sub-prefecture and urged Senegal's police and judiciary to use every legal avenue to arrest the suspect, who has reportedly taken refuge in Mauritania since the attack to evade prosecution, according to Seneweb's sources.
The march, which passed off without incident, drew local residents and several public figures, including the mayor of Sicap-Liberte. Participants carried banners denouncing femicide and calling for "Justice for Astou Pierre".
