Madar (Dakar) - The Senegalese National Assembly's plenary session on the amended 2026 finance bill, initially scheduled for Friday, 23 October, has been postponed to next week with no date set, according to a statement by the PASTEF-Les Patriotes parliamentary group dated 20 October 2026 and reported on Wednesday, 21 October by the daily Le Soleil.

The group said a long day of work in the finance committee had not produced a "comprehensive and solid" consensus with the government, despite some compromises. The disagreements concern "important points", which the statement did not list.

At the government's request, the finance committee will meet again on Thursday, 22 October, and the Ministry of Economy and Finance is to provide it with additional documents and justifications beforehand. The postponement of the plenary was also agreed at the government's request.

The group reiterated its readiness for "constructive dialogue" and to seek solutions "in the exclusive interest of the Senegalese people".

PASTEF leader and National Assembly speaker Ousmane Sonko had announced that his party would not vote for the amended budget as it stands.
