Madar (N'Djamena) - Chadian Prime Minister Allah-Maye Halina made a surprise visit to two major hospitals in N'Djamena facing a heavy influx of patients amid a dengue epidemic, urging health officials to take urgent measures to contain the disease and improve patient care, Tchadinfos reported on Wednesday, 28 October 2026.

At the Chad-China Friendship Hospital, he found a crowded emergency department where medical teams are struggling with the rising number of patients. The situation is compounded by a doctors' strike over the non-application of harmonised allowances, blamed on a lack of budget resources, although a minimum service is maintained. Halina told health officials to find an immediate solution to the strike and checked progress on extension works that include a large emergency centre.

At the National General Reference Hospital (HGRN), some patients had been placed on the floor for lack of beds, while staff continued to provide care in difficult conditions, the same source said.

After the visits, the prime minister met officials from the health ministry and the hospitals concerned and asked them to mobilise the resources needed to contain the epidemic, increase capacity and stabilise the health situation in the capital.

The epidemic, declared on 3 October, is Chad's second after one in 2023. According to figures presented at an interministerial meeting chaired by the prime minister on 22 October, 3,846 suspected cases had been recorded in six provinces, including 299 confirmed cases, and 11 deaths.
