Madar (N'Djamena) - Chad's Minister of Public Security and Immigration, Gen. Ali Ahmat Aghabach, on Saturday, 31 October 2026, ordered a strict ban on motorbike traffic outside urban areas in the provinces of Hadjer-Lamis, Bahr El Gazel, Batha and Chari-Baguirmi until further notice, Tchadinfos reported on Sunday.

According to the outlet, motorbikes are now allowed to circulate only within urban areas in the four provinces.

The decision comes amid a resurgence of intercommunal conflicts linked in particular to land, water wells, pastures and transhumance, the same source said.

The source did not specify penalties for offenders or whether any exemptions apply.

Chadian authorities had already banned two-wheeler traffic in October in parts of Salamat province, in the south-east of the country, after deadly clashes between farmers and herders.
