Madar (N'Djamena) - Chad's director general of pharmacy, medicines and laboratories, Dr Ayoub Moussa Abderamane, received 9,050 dengue tests on Saturday, 7 November 2026, donated by the World Bank through the health projects coordination unit, the news site Tchadinfos reported.
The directorate said the tests would be made available to health facilities as part of the dengue response.
The support comes amid a surge in the disease, with reports of a shortage of tests in health facilities, particularly public ones, according to Tchadinfos, which also noted that the government's free-care decision faces a lack of staff, money and equipment. Earlier this month the authorities announced a toll of 18 deaths and 6,275 suspected cases.
On the same day, a spraying operation was carried out at Klessoum prison at the initiative of the Ministry of Justice, covering cells, drains and other parts of the facility, to fight mosquitoes and prevent malaria and dengue. The coordinator of the national prison health programme, Nediguim Issaka Abdel, said spraying alone was not a lasting solution without removing stagnant water and managing waste properly.
Speaking to senators on Friday, 6 November, Public Health and Prevention Minister Dr Abdelmadjid Abderahim said: "For this epidemic to be contained, we must clean the whole area, spray and treat our cities," warning against unverified information on social media and against self-medication.
