Madar (Tunis) - Power cuts in summer 2026 cost Tunisian businesses 1,269.6 million dinars in value added that was not generated, according to a survey by the Arab Institute of Business Leaders (IACE) whose results were reported on Wednesday, October 28, 2026, by news site Webdo.
The estimate covers losses directly linked to stoppages, without counting other damage such as broken equipment, lost customers or commercial penalties. The survey covered industrial, commercial and market-services companies in July and August 2026.
In all, 96% of firms surveyed experienced power cuts, some several times a day. They lost an average of 13 days of activity, and at least 20 days for 29% of them. Manufacturing accounted for 671.5 million dinars in losses, followed by market services (316.1 million) and trade (282.1 million).
Some 63.5% of firms reported lower turnover, rising to 83% in industry. Among exporters, 29.4% missed delivery deadlines, and nearly two-thirds of firms reported damage to motors, compressors, production machinery or IT equipment.
Looking ahead, 74% of firms plan to invest within the next 12 months in solutions to secure their power supply, such as generators, solar installations and batteries, while 51.9% have postponed investment projects, the same source said.
