Madar (Tunis) - The criminal chamber for terrorism cases at the Tunis Court of Appeal has increased the prison sentences of several defendants in the case of the attack on the Ghriba synagogue on the island of Djerba in May 2023, Tunisian radio Mosaique FM reported on Tuesday, October 20, 2026.

According to the station, the court raised from eight to ten years the sentences of the attacker's fiancee and of the person who rented him a studio and stayed in contact with him, and placed both under administrative supervision for five years.

A third defendant's sentence was raised from two to six years. The court also overturned the first-instance acquittal of a fourth defendant and sentenced her to six years in prison.

The attack began when a National Guard officer shot dead a colleague and then opened fire near the synagogue, killing and wounding visitors and security personnel. Six security officers were wounded, one of whom later died, the radio said.

The source did not name the defendants or give the date of the hearing.
