Madar (Beni Mellal) - Moroccan Minister of Agriculture, Maritime Fisheries and Food Sovereignty Khalid Hatimi officially launched the 2026-2027 farming season on Saturday, November 7, 2026, in the Beni Mellal-Khenifra region, during a field visit to the provinces of Beni Mellal and Fquih Ben Salah, news site Hespress reported.
The visit, attended by the regional governor (wali), the head of the regional council and sector officials, follows a 2025-2026 season in which the cereal harvest reached about 90 million quintals thanks to rainfall, according to the same source. The ministry has set out measures for the new season covering production inputs, value chains, irrigation modernisation and wider farm insurance.
"From the heart of the Tadla plain we are launching the new 2026-2027 farming season, from which we expect high productivity, abundant output and high added value for farmers and consumers alike," Hatimi told Hespress, adding that the ministry also aims to create new and sustainable jobs.
The minister said climate change, geopolitical disruption and rising input prices require a rethink of working and planning methods, stressing that "we cannot continue in the same way", as part of the "Green Generation" strategy.
In Sidi Hammadi, Fquih Ben Salah province, he visited the regional certified-seed sales centre of the national seed marketing company Sonacos and was briefed on supplying farmers with certified, subsidised seed, before officially launching sowing after a preparatory meeting with professional and financial bodies.
The tour also covered a filtration station in the Beni Moussa West irrigation district, built for 15 million dirhams and serving 3,243 hectares and about 900 farmers, and the modernisation of the Zidania canal in Kasbah Tadla, worth 395.22 million dirhams, to reduce irrigation water losses. The delegation also visited a women's cooperative in Ouled M'barek.
