Madar (Nouakchott) - The court in Zouerate, Tiris Zemmour region, on Monday evening, October 26, 2026, fined a group of artisanal gold miners 51,000 old ouguiyas (5,100 new ouguiyas) each, the Al-Akhbar news agency reported.

The ruling followed the arrest of the group of 61 miners while they were digging inside a banned area at Guelb Ndour in the north of the country.

Authorities require miners to stay at least 10 kilometres inside national territory, away from border areas. The source did not say when the miners were arrested.
