Mauritania's Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research has announced free travel on all urban public transport routes for 9,926 students listed in TAAZOUR's social registry: 9,762 in Nouakchott and 164 in Nouadhibou.

In an announcement dated October 15, the ministry said it had sent the beneficiary lists to TAAZOUR and the public transport company. It urged eligible students to begin the procedures for obtaining their passes through the two organisations.

For other higher education students, discounted travel on the traditional university transport network is available through a monthly pass costing 5,000 old ouguiyas. Passes can be obtained through the public transport company's E-Ticket app or ticket counters at the university campus.

The discounted university ticket costing 50 old ouguiyas per journey is now available exclusively through the app using electronic payment services. Students who do not use the app to obtain that ticket will have to pay the network's ordinary fare rather than the discounted student rate, the ministry said.

The ministry also said urban bus rapid transit routes, known as BHNS, now serve the campus. Free travel for students on the social registry is a separate scheme from the discounted passes and tickets available to all higher education students.
