Madar (Nouakchott) - The El Insaf party on Saturday morning launched a large volunteer clean-up campaign covering the nine municipalities of the capital, Nouakchott, in response to what it described as President Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani's call for a national drive for cleanliness and greater collective awareness of the importance of protecting the environment and keeping public spaces clean.
The launch was overseen by the party's permanent secretary for territorial planning, urban development and environmental sustainability, Sidi Mohamed Ould Bouna, known as "El Moudir", in the presence of the president of the Nouakchott region, the party's federal officials in the capital's three wilayas, mayors, section heads, Nouakchott MPs from the party, the Nouakchott region's technical director, and party cadres and activists.
The campaign involved simultaneous field operations in all nine municipalities of the capital, starting from pre-arranged gathering points to coordinate efforts and broaden participation, with contributions from party bodies, elected officials and volunteers.
The party said the initiative reflects El Insaf's response to the president's directives on cleanliness and its participation in national efforts to improve living conditions, upgrade the capital's urban landscape and promote a culture of volunteering and shared responsibility for the environment and public property.
The campaign also reflects, according to the party, its aim of mobilising its bodies, elected officials and activists to help tackle national priority issues through field activities that strengthen civic participation and support local authorities' efforts to keep the city clean and protect its environment.
