Madar (Nouakchott) - Mauritania's Minister of Public Service and Labour on Thursday evening, October 29, 2026, launched at the Inchiri regional council headquarters in Akjoujt the phase-two consultations of the emergency programme to expand access to essential local-development services in the region, the Mauritanian News Agency reported.

The president of the Inchiri regional council said phase-one projects in the region are 65% complete.

According to the minister, the health component has progressed in Akjoujt and Benichab, with work continuing on the regional hospital, renovation of the Akjoujt health centre and rehabilitation of the Bouleouakh health post, while the water tower has been completed, desalination work carried out and Akjoujt's distribution network extended by 3.5 kilometres.

She said phase two will identify gaps and priority needs through direct consultation with citizens, while speeding up phase-one projects and addressing "delays and slowdowns" in some components, describing the forums as delivering on the president's 2024 campaign pledge to involve citizens directly in setting priorities.

The mayors of the region's three communes presented residents' main demands.

The Inchiri consultations are part of ministerial missions to eleven regions that began on Thursday in Gorgol, Brakna and Guidimakha.
