Madar (Nouakchott) - Mauritania is due to pay the International Monetary Fund 20.52 million special drawing rights (SDRs) over the last three months of 2026, according to the country's financial position in the Fund as of September 30, 2026.

The payments comprise 17.85 million SDRs of principal and 2.67 million in charges and interest. Projected payments rise to 58.13 million SDRs in 2027, the highest annual amount in the published schedule, before easing to 56.68 million in 2028, 52.79 million in 2029 and 40.85 million in 2030.

Mauritania's outstanding IMF credit stands at about 432.8 million SDRs, including 193.2 million under the Resilience and Sustainability Facility, 111.56 million under the Extended Credit Facility, 76.54 million in Rapid Credit Facility loans drawn in April 2020 and 51.52 million under the Extended Fund Facility.

The IMF board approved two new programmes with Mauritania on June 24, 2026, running to December 2029 and worth about 70.8 million SDRs in total, of which roughly 19.4 million had been drawn by the end of September, the data show.

The Fund notes that projected payments are based on existing use of its resources and that some charges and dates remain provisional. The SDR is a reserve asset issued by the IMF whose value is based on a basket of major currencies.
