Mauritania's Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research has announced alternative options for doctors who were unable to join medical specialisation programmes in Algeria because of the limited number of places available.

The ministry's director of information systems, Sidi Mohamed Ahmed, said the relevant departments are working to direct the students to other countries to continue their medical training.

The move follows protests by a number of doctors who were left off the final scholarship lists, even though they had completed their applications and some of their names had previously appeared on the online platform.
