Madar (Nouakchott) - The national campaign to distribute insecticide-treated bed nets starts on Monday, November 2, 2026, in the Guidimakha region and will run for ten days covering all of its communes, according to the Mauritanian News Agency (AMI).
Guidimakha governor Dahmane Birouk launched an awareness and advocacy drive on Saturday at the regional headquarters in Selibaby to accompany the distribution. He stressed the importance of treated nets in preventing malaria, especially in areas where conditions favour the disease, such as those along the river or with many trees and water.
He urged public services and bodies to step up mobilisation to ensure the campaign's success and raise health awareness in towns and rural areas, stressing the role of civil society and the media.
Regional health director Dr Mohamed Salem Ould Dhouib presented the distribution arrangements for the region's communes and departments, in the presence of the region's vice-president, Selibaby's deputy prefect and regional service heads.
