Madar (Nouakchott) - Mauritanian President Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani headed back to Nouakchott on Thursday, October 29, 2026, after taking part in the third Russia-Africa summit in Moscow alongside heads of state and government and African delegation leaders, the presidency's press office said.

The president had joined the summit's sessions in the morning, held under the theme "For peace, security and development", after attending the plenary of the economic and humanitarian forum on Wednesday and a Kremlin dinner hosted by Vladimir Putin for African leaders.

Kremlin aide Yuri Ushakov had said, according to TASS, that Putin would hold a bilateral meeting with President Ghazouani on Friday, October 30; the Mauritanian presidency has not announced whether it took place.

On the sidelines of the summit, Justice Minister Mohamed Ould Soueidatt signed two agreements with his Russian counterpart on extradition and the transfer of sentenced persons, and Mauritania's broadcasting company signed a cooperation protocol with RT.
