Madar (Nouakchott) - Mauritanian President Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani on Thursday, October 29, 2026, took part in the third Russia-Africa summit in Moscow, held under the theme "For peace, security and development", alongside heads of state and government and heads of delegations, the Mauritanian News Agency reported.
The president arrived in the morning at the historic Gostiny Dvor building, the summit venue, according to the presidency's press office, which livestreamed his participation. The summit is discussing economic cooperation, with a focus on trade, investment, health, infrastructure, energy, technology and education.
Delegations from 48 African countries, 22 of them led by heads of state, are taking part in more than 40 sessions over two days, the Associated Press reported. "Africa is seeking partners to strengthen its capacity to generate its own wealth," said Burundian President Evariste Ndayishimiye, current African Union chair and summit co-chair.
The summit opened on Wednesday with the economic and humanitarian forum, whose plenary session President Ghazouani attended, followed by a Kremlin dinner hosted by Putin for African leaders.
Putin is expected to hold a bilateral meeting with President Ghazouani on Friday, October 30, Kremlin aide Yuri Ushakov said, according to TASS, adding that the summit is expected to produce three documents, followed by the signing of 33 intergovernmental agreements.
On the sidelines, Justice Minister Mohamed Ould Soueidatt signed two agreements with his Russian counterpart on extradition and the transfer of sentenced persons. The first two Russia-Africa summits were held in Sochi in October 2019 and St Petersburg in July 2023.
