Madar (Nouakchott) - Fisheries and Maritime and Port Infrastructure Minister Aissata Lam held a videoconference on Thursday, October 22, 2026, with EU Commissioner for Fisheries and Oceans Costas Kadis to continue "consultations and deepen discussion of the core issues" in the ongoing fisheries negotiations between Mauritania and the European Union, the Sahara Medias website reported, citing the fisheries ministry.
According to the ministry, the two sides exchanged views on the issues on the table and discussed ways to bring their positions closer, stressing the importance of continued dialogue to reach "balanced results" that serve both sides' interests and support the sustainable use of marine resources.
The two sides are holding intensive talks to renew the protocol of the sustainable fisheries partnership agreement before the current protocol expires on November 14.
An earlier round in Las Palmas in June focused on the revised draft protocol and its annexes, including technical and financial aspects. The ministry did not detail the outstanding issues.
