A boarding facility with capacity for 150 students opened in Kaedi on the evening of Thursday, October 15, providing accommodation and meals for lower- and upper-secondary pupils. Food Security Commissioner Fatima Mint Khatri inaugurated the facility, according to the Mauritanian News Agency.

The programme includes extra tuition in mathematics, science, physics, French and Islamic education. It is run jointly by the Food Security Commission and the TAAZOUR delegation, under the supervision of the Ministry of Education and Reform of the Education System.

Mint Khatri said the programme began as a pilot in two centres in Hodh Chargui and Adrar before being extended this year to several cities, including Kaedi, Aleg, Kiffa and Atar. She added that it is due to be rolled out to the remaining regions at a later stage.
