Madar (Tripoli) - Libyan Government of National Unity Prime Minister Abdulhamid Dbeibah held a meeting on Saturday, October 31, 2026, at the Misrata free zone with traders and representatives of chambers of commerce and industry to discuss developments in local commodity prices, the Libyan state news agency LANA reported, citing the government platform "Hukumatuna".
The meeting covered mechanisms for opening letters of credit, the market exchange rate of the dollar, the customs dollar and the economy and trade minister's decision to restrict imports to banking channels, the agency said.
Participants also assessed the measures regulating imports and ways to review and adjust them to market needs, balancing banking procedures with local demand.
Dbeibah stressed the need for balanced measures to stabilise the market, ensure goods remain available and keep imports flowing, in order to curb price rises, ease the burden on citizens and protect their purchasing power, with closer coordination between government bodies and the private sector.
Several government members, including the economy and trade minister and the transport minister, as well as the director of the Misrata free zone, attended the meeting, the same source said.
