Madar (Algiers) - Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune said on Tuesday, October 27, 2026, that Algeria "is and will remain a safe and reliable supplier" of gas, in a speech read on his behalf by Prime Minister Sifi Ghrieb at the summit of heads of state and government of the Gas Exporting Countries Forum in Moscow, Algerian news site TSA reported.

Algeria's reliability "never faltered, even in the most difficult circumstances," he said, recalling that the country built in Arzew in 1964 "the world's first natural gas liquefaction complex." He said Algeria is now among the world's ten largest gas producers and the European Union's second-largest pipeline supplier.

Tebboune also referred to the Trans-Saharan Gas Pipeline, meant to carry gas from Nigeria to Europe via Niger and Algeria with an estimated capacity of 30 billion cubic meters a year, saying Algeria would put its expertise and capital behind the project.

On the energy transition, he said the national programme aims to produce 15,000 megawatts of renewable energy, with funding of around 22 billion euros by 2035. Algeria also wants to become a major hydrogen player through the SoutH2 Corridor it is developing with European partners and Tunisia, the same source said.
