Madar (Algiers) - Algerian Prime Minister Sifi Ghrieb on Saturday, November 7, 2026, inaugurated two border quality-analysis laboratories, one at the port of Algiers and the other at Algiers international airport, according to Algerian Radio.

According to the same source, the project implements instructions President Abdelmadjid Tebboune gave at the council of ministers on June 7, 2026, to set up control laboratories at all the country's ports and airports.

In a statement to the press, Ghrieb said the laboratories would be "an addition to the national economy" and a protection for it, as they will allow goods to be checked in a short time while easing their passage. He called for stronger controls carried out with the utmost vigilance.

The laboratories belong to the Algerian Centre for Quality and Packaging Control, under the Ministry of Domestic Trade. Controls work on two levels: rapid screening at the border, with results within minutes to hours, followed by confirmatory analyses at national laboratories.

Testing covers food products such as oils, spices, meat, honey, milk and dairy products, cereals and food supplements, as well as non-food items including cosmetics, detergents, packaging, toys, textiles and medicines, with an estimated capacity of more than 190 analyses a day, according to a presentation made at the event.

The facilities were built by the defence ministry's Central Construction Company as part of a national network of border quality laboratories, which is due to be extended to other ports and crossings including Oran, Bejaia, Skikda, Annaba, Mostaganem, Jijel and Tlemcen.

Several government members, a defence ministry representative and the governor of Algiers attended the inauguration, along with port and airport officials.
