Madar (Algiers) - Algeria and the Netherlands on Monday, November 2, 2026, reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral relations, deepening political dialogue and diversifying their partnership, according to a joint statement issued after talks between Algerian Foreign Minister Ahmed Attaf and his Dutch counterpart Tom Berendsen, the official APS agency reported.

Berendsen is on a working visit to Algeria on November 2-3. He held one-to-one talks with Attaf, followed by a session with both delegations, and was received by President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, the agency said.

The two ministers agreed to hold the next rounds of political consultations and of the joint commission for economic and technological cooperation in 2027, to draw up a roadmap setting priorities and a timetable for cooperation, in the year that marks the 65th anniversary of diplomatic relations, the statement said.

They explored partnership opportunities in renewable energy and green hydrogen, agriculture and water management, transport and logistics, the knowledge economy and start-ups, as well as training and exchanges, and took note of a draft memorandum of understanding on renewables, green hydrogen and the energy transition that is under negotiation.

On migration, the two sides agreed to step up cooperation through concerted action and coordination mechanisms, noting a "convergence of views" on the need for a "comprehensive, integrated" and "balanced" approach covering all migration routes. The statement also stressed the importance of Algeria-EU relations and of dialogue to address both sides' concerns.

After meeting President Tebboune, Berendsen said the talks covered "the need to establish stability and security in the region" and cooperation "to face threats in the Sahel region", adding that the Netherlands "greatly appreciates" Algeria's efforts and sees it as "a key partner", APS reported. No signed agreement was announced.
