Madar (Algiers) - Campaigning for Algeria's November 28 local elections will officially begin on November 5, the vice-president of the Independent National Electoral Authority (ANIE), Mohamed Lahcen Zeghidi, said on Thursday, October 29, 2026, according to the official APS news agency.

He spoke on the sidelines of a draw allocating candidates' time slots on public radio and television during the campaign, held at the Abdelatif-Rahal International Conference Centre in Algiers under the supervision of ANIE president Saad Arous, with the communication minister and the delegate minister for local authorities attending, the agency said.

Zeghidi said recordings of candidates from political parties and independent lists in the studios of Algerian Television and National Radio would start 72 hours before the campaign, with broadcasts beginning on Thursday, November 5. He reiterated ANIE's "full readiness" to ensure the vote runs smoothly.

Representatives of the competing parties and independent lists signed the charter of ethics for electoral practices on the sidelines of the draw, the same source said.
