Madar (Algiers) - Algeria's National Independent Election Authority (ANIE) on Monday, November 2, 2026, reminded candidates from political parties and independent lists, and all those involved in the electoral process, of the legal framework governing the campaign for the November 28, 2026 municipal and provincial assembly elections, according to a statement carried by the official APS agency.
The campaign opens on Thursday, November 5, and ends on Tuesday, November 24, 2026, under Article 73 of the organic electoral law, and no one may campaign outside that period in any form, the authority said.
ANIE urged candidates to refrain from hate speech and any form of discrimination, stating that "the use of foreign languages during the electoral campaign is prohibited". Using the property or resources of any public or private legal entity, institution or public body for campaign purposes is also banned unless the law provides otherwise.
The statement also bans the use of places of worship, public institutions and administrations, and schools and training establishments for campaigning, as well as malicious use of state symbols and any violent, unfair or insulting conduct by candidates.
Broadcasters authorised to cover the campaign must ensure a fair share of airtime among candidates, monitored by ANIE in coordination with the audiovisual regulator, and commercial advertising for campaign purposes is prohibited.
ANIE also recalled the ban on publishing voting-intention polls in the 72 hours before the vote and said posters are allowed only on public spaces allocated equally within each constituency. The statement, as published by APS, did not specify penalties for violations.
