Several French cities saw a new wave of student protests on Monday, with a number of schools blocked in protest at conditions in the education sector, according to BFMTV.
The action hit the Hélène-Boucher high school in Paris as well as schools in Lyon, Rennes, Marseille and Ivry-sur-Seine, where students set up barricades of rubbish bins at some entrances.
The education ministry said 41 high schools had been blocked by 9:30 a.m., about 1% of the roughly 3,700 high schools in the country.
The ministry said three quarters of departments had seen no disruption. Education Minister Édouard Geffray played down the scale of the protests, calling the blockades limited and pointing to cases in the Paris region, the north and Toulouse.
