Madar (Dakar) - Senegal defender Ismaila Jakobs, 27, has announced his retirement from international football in a message posted on his social media accounts, wiwsport reported on Wednesday, 28 October 2026.

"I arrived in the national team as a young boy, and I leave it as a man," wrote the player, who was born and raised in Germany. "As the son of a Senegalese father, it was something very special for me to fulfil not only my own dream but also my father's," he added, thanking Senegal, its supporters and his teammates for their warm welcome.

First called up in September 2022, the left-back won 33 official caps. He played at two World Cups, in 2022 and 2026, and at two Africa Cup of Nations tournaments, in 2023 and 2025.

Jakobs said he wants to focus more on his club career and his family, while stressing that his bond with the country remains: "My adventure on the pitch with Senegal is coming to an end, but my connection with this country will never fade." He signed off with "Jerejef for everything. Senegal Rek!"
