Senegal's Minister of Energy and Petroleum, El Hadji Abdourahmane Diouf, said the country aims to reduce energy costs by around 30% by increasing its use of domestically produced natural gas and expanding renewable energy projects.
The minister said these measures form part of a national strategy to lower electricity generation costs and reduce dependence on imported fuel, while improving the energy sector's efficiency and reforming the subsidy system.
Senegal is counting in particular on the resources expected from the Yakaar-Teranga gas project, alongside oil production from the Sangomar field and gas from the Greater Tortue Ahmeyim project shared with Mauritania.
