Madar (Niamey) - Niger's Solidarity Fund for the Safeguarding of the Homeland (FSSP) has raised more than 71 billion CFA francs in its three years of operation, including more than 38 billion in the third year, according to a review presented on Wednesday, 28 October 2026, at Niamey city hall by the chair of its management committee, Réki Moussa Hassane Djermakoye, the state daily Le Sahel reported.

She said resources mobilised could reach 73 billion as of the day of the meeting, with the fund receiving a little under 4 billion each month.

More than 41 billion CFA francs have been invested in acquisitions for the defence and security forces, including more than 350 vehicles of all types and motorbikes. The fund also finances projects to promote local rice, large-scale irrigation, the fish sector and the integration of 1,000 young graduates, as well as factories and workshops for assembling and armouring vehicles and making parts.

She credited this year's 93% rate of voluntary contributions to the president's so-called "Tillaberi appeal", adding that the Niamey region is the largest contributor.

The fund aims to set up 12,000 collection committees across the country; 11,410 are already in place, including 145 in Niamey, according to the same source.
