Madar (Bamako) - Mali's Prime Minister, Major General Abdoulaye Maïga, on Monday, 19 October 2026 received Qatar's ambassador to Mali, Ahmed Bin Turki Al-Subaie, at the Primature for talks on strengthening bilateral relations, promoting investment and fighting terrorism in the Sahel, the official Malian news agency AMAP reported.

The two sides reaffirmed their wish to boost cooperation between Bamako and Doha, notably through "the upcoming finalisation of strategic economic agreements", the nature of which AMAP did not specify.

After the meeting, the Qatari diplomat strongly condemned terrorist attacks in Mali and across the Confederation of Sahel States (AES), denounced "state support for armed groups" and stressed the need for a firm response to eradicate the scourge, the agency said.

On behalf of Transition President General Assimi Goïta and the Malian people, the prime minister conveyed his condolences to the Emir of Qatar and wished the ambassador success in his mission. The meeting came a day after attacks on camps near Ménaka in north-eastern Mali that killed more than 40 civilians, according to local and security sources cited by Madar.
