Madar (Bamako) - Mali's transitional president, General Assimi Goita, on Thursday, 22 October 2026 received at Koulouba palace the 2021 and 2024 annual reports of the Central Office for the Fight against Illicit Enrichment (OCLEI) from its president Modibo Sacko, in the presence of Prime Minister General Abdoulaye Maiga, the official Malian news agency AMAP reported.
In 2021, OCLEI checked the 968 asset declarations forwarded by the Supreme Court, referred 12 cases to the courts and carried out a study on how illicit enrichment works in the civil service, while more than 1,400 people took part in awareness activities, according to AMAP.
In 2024, of 48 cases examined, 22 were investigated in depth and 13 were sent to the courts. The office's toll-free line received 168 calls that produced 34 tip-offs from citizens, and prevention work reached 2,025 people, including 761 women, through 21 awareness activities.
The office's president pointed to several difficulties, notably the low rate of implementation of its recommendations: only 25.49% were fully implemented between 2017 and 2023. He also cited difficult access to land records, a lack of equipment and the absence of its own headquarters.
Goita stressed the need to end impunity and the embezzlement of public funds, recalling the recent creation of a specialised land service, a sector he described as particularly exposed to corruption. He called for faster digitisation of administrative procedures, modernised oversight and a tool to regularly assess anti-corruption results, AMAP said.
