Madar (N'Djamena) - Two young men were shot dead by a soldier on patrol on Sunday, 25 October 2026 at the Kome oil site in the Nya department of Logone Oriental province, southern Chad, Tchadinfos reported on Tuesday, 27 October.

According to the youth president of Kome, Oumar Ganda, speaking by phone to radio La Voix du Paysan in Doba as quoted by the site, a group of young men suspected of theft arrived at the former Kome 2 airport to cut electric cables illegally while a military patrol was at the scene.

The same source said the group allegedly resisted and jumped on the soldiers, seriously wounding one of them with a saw, which led him to open fire. One suspect was killed on the spot; a second, seriously wounded, was taken to the health centre in Ndaba village, where he died shortly afterwards. The others fled.

The canton chief of Kome, Ndolebe Naniasngar Ndolebe Philippe, confirmed the facts and deplored the incident, saying cable theft persists among young people despite repeated awareness campaigns. The report carried no statement from the Chadian army.
