Madar (International) - Two migrants died and several others arrived injured on Sunday, October 18, 2026, aboard a boat carrying 132 people that reached the island of El Hierro in Spain's Canary Islands, according to the newspaper 20minutos and radio Cadena SER.

Spain's external surveillance system (SIVE) detected the boat at 04:30, 2.7 kilometres south of the port of La Restinga, and a Maritime Rescue vessel escorted it to port, a spokesperson said.

The emergency team on land confirmed that two people arrived dead, while other injured people, two of them in serious condition, were taken to health centres on El Hierro and Tenerife.

The sources did not say where the boat had set off from. El Hierro, the archipelago's southernmost island, is the first landfall for boats taking the Atlantic route from the West African coast.
