Tunisia is working to strengthen direct air links with Russia by studying an increase in the number of flights from the country, in response to growing demand for Tunisia as a destination, the Tunis Afrique Presse agency reported.
The agency quoted Tunisia's tourism representative in Russia and the Commonwealth of Independent States as saying the Tunisian authorities want to encourage airlines to step up flights so that Russian tour operators can expand their programmes to Tunisia.
The move is part of plans to attract about 600,000 Russian tourists in the coming period, as part of efforts to diversify tourism markets and strengthen Tunisia's presence in the Russian market.
The representative noted, however, that several obstacles still prevent Russian tourist flows from returning to previous levels, chief among them air transport difficulties, geopolitical tensions and the effects of international sanctions.
