Madar (Tunis) - Attacks on trains, metros and buses caused about 4 million dinars in material damage in 2025-2026, Tunisian Transport Minister Rachid Amri said, Tunisian news site Webdo reported on Sunday, November 1, 2026, citing the minister's remarks to national radio.
According to the same source, the minister presented the figures on Saturday, October 31, in Ben Arous, on the sidelines of a meeting on preserving the public transport service. He said the estimate does not include other losses linked to the attacks and that the money could have funded other projects in the sector.
Amri said 362 people had been affected, including drivers and transport staff, without detailing the nature or severity of the harm. The amount was not broken down by operator or by year.
On October 22, the national rail company SNCFT estimated the cost of replacing train windows broken by stone-throwing in 2025 at about 162,000 dinars, a single item for one year that is not to be added to the minister's figure. The southern Tunis suburban lines carry more than 21 million passengers a year, according to SNCFT.
The minister stressed that the harm to citizens goes beyond material damage, as a delayed or stopped vehicle can prevent passengers from reaching work, a medical appointment or a hospital, sometimes from the interior regions. He called on families, schools, places of worship, the media and civil society to take part in prevention, focusing on supervising young people and involving parents.
