Madar (Rabat) - Moroccan authorities were still searching on Sunday, October 25, 2026, for five fishermen aboard a traditional fishing boat that went missing off the coast of Safi, the Ministry of Maritime Fisheries announced, according to news site Hespress.

Authorities were alerted on Friday, October 23, at around 5 p.m., after the owner of the fishing boat Lalla Khadija, registered under number 7-7016, reported that it had not returned to Safi port as expected, the ministry said.

The Maritime Search and Rescue Coordination Center in Bouznika immediately launched operations in the boat's suspected location and alerted fishing vessels and commercial ships operating nearby.

Two rescue boats from Safi and Agadir joined the search, along with fishing vessels and merchant ships redirected to the area. Two helicopters from the Royal Gendarmerie and the Royal Navy reinforced the operation, carrying out several aerial searches.

The ministry said difficult weather and sea conditions were complicating efforts to locate the vessel and rescue its five crew members. Search operations remain under way with civilian and military resources, coordinated by the Bouznika center.
