Madar (Rabat) - Morocco has moved up from fifth to fourth place among Africa's most attractive investment destinations, overtaking South Africa, according to the "Where to Invest in Africa" report published on Tuesday, October 27, 2026, by Rand Merchant Bank (RMB), news site Hespress reported, citing Bloomberg.
Seychelles, Mauritius and Egypt kept the top three spots for a third consecutive year. RMB attributed Morocco's rise to years of industrial development, export diversification and infrastructure investment, particularly in the automotive sector, as well as macroeconomic stability and its ability to attract foreign direct investment.
According to figures cited in the report, Morocco's economy grew 4.9% in 2025, compared with 1.1% for South Africa. The ranking assessed 31 African countries using 20 indicators grouped into four categories, and measures relative investment attractiveness rather than actual foreign investment received.
Nigeria recorded the strongest improvement, climbing seven places to 11th, while Senegal suffered the largest decline, falling five places to 19th amid fiscal and political difficulties, the same source said.
