Madar (Nouakchott) - The president of Mauritania's National Observatory for the Rights of Women and Girls on Sunday visited the women's prison in Nouakchott to see first-hand the situation of the inmates and their living conditions.

According to the observatory, the visit aimed to identify the needs of the women held there and to hear the problems and difficulties they face during their detention.

The observatory said the visit was part of its work on the rights of women prisoners and its efforts to improve their conditions of detention and ensure they are treated in a way that preserves their dignity and rights.
