Madar (Nouakchott) - Mauritania's Minister of Trade and Tourism, Zeinebou Mint Ahmednah, on Sunday, October 25, 2026, attended the opening ceremony of the World Investment Forum 2026 in the Qatari capital Doha, where she presented Mauritania's investment opportunities, the Al-Wiam news agency reported.

Addressing ministers, officials and representatives of international institutions and the private sector, the minister said Mauritania is working to improve its business climate, diversify its economy and strengthen the private sector's contribution, adding that a new investment law adopted in 2025 provides a clearer and more attractive legal framework, with stronger investment protection and incentives directed at productive, job-creating projects.

She said the government is improving the performance of the investment promotion agency and simplifying procedures, and highlighted the country's assets: its location linking North Africa with the interior of the continent, its mineral, marine and energy resources, and opportunities in tourism, trade and the digital economy.

Mint Ahmednah called for investment geared toward local processing of resources, technology transfer and bringing small and medium-sized enterprises into value chains, and for a shift from competing for investment to "building strategic partnerships based on common interests and risk-sharing".

She pointed to a joint project launched with the UN Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) to improve investment policies in support of an inclusive digital economy, saying Mauritania's ambition is not only to attract more investment but quality, responsible investment that supports national production, strengthens the private sector and creates jobs.
