Madar (Nouakchott) - Prime Minister Mokhtar Ould Djay said his government would keep working to honour its commitments, stressing that what has been achieved, however significant, still falls short of the President of the Republic's ambitions and the Mauritanian people's aspirations.

Presenting the government's programme to parliament on Saturday, Ould Djay said the government would not be satisfied with any record as long as citizens suffer from poverty and disease, before all the goals of the Republican School are met and before the country overcomes its various development challenges.

He said efforts to ensure the continuity of electricity supply had not prevented a fire at two stations in Nouakchott, which affected the quality and reliability of the service.

He added that the President would not consider any record sufficient unless it translates into real jobs for hard-working young people, saying the work would remain below the required level as long as any citizen feels discriminated against because of their colour or economic situation.

The Prime Minister stressed that Mauritania needs to embrace all its children and entrench justice and equality among them, so that everyone takes part in the country's development.
