Madar (Nouadhibou) - The governor of Dakhlet Nouadhibou, Tvila Mohamedne Haden, on Thursday morning, October 22, 2026, launched the second phase of the city's comprehensive clean-up campaign from the Dercage district, as part of efforts to improve the urban environment and public health, the Mauritanian News Agency (AMI) reported.

The campaign runs for a full month under a plan that divides the clean-up into four weeks, each handled by a group of public institutions, federations and local partners in a participatory approach.

After the launch, the governor toured squares and sites cleared of waste during the first week, after illegal dumps and construction debris were removed and public spaces rehabilitated, and urged residents to preserve the results and prevent the return of "black spots".

Residents praised the efforts while describing the challenges, the harm caused by waste and irresponsible behaviour that worsens the problem. The city recently saw a rubbish dump turned into a green space.
